Root Canal Therapy
Root canals therapy may vary form one to three appointments.
- In the case of a very difficult root canal treatment, you may
be referred to a specialist.
- An antibiotic and some pain medication may be prescribed.
First Appointment:
- A small opening will be made on the biting surface of the tooth.
- Nerve tissue is removed with small instruments and the tooth
is disinfected.
- A temporary filling is placed.
- The tooth may be sensitive for 24-48 hours. If the pain is severe,
please call the office.
Second Appointment:
- Remaining nerve tissue and infection are removed from the tooth.
- X-rays will be taken to ensure the tooth is clean.
- A temporary filling is placed again.
- The tooth may be sensitive for 24-48 hours. If the pain is severe,
please call the office.
Third Appointment:
- A rubber filling material is placed in the tooth canals.
- Generally, the permanent filling is also placed at this time.
- Note: A tooth having undergone root canal therapy has less strength
then previously. It is recommended that a crown be placed to protect
the tooth from fracture.
